Former President Uhuru Kenyatta donated Sh1.5 million to support the construction of the Stella Maris Pastoral Centre in Watamu, Kilifi County.

In a statement on Thursday, August 28, the Catholic Diocese of Malindi confirmed that the former Head of State made the contribution during a tour of the ongoing project.

“The Stella Maris Pastoral Centre project in Watamu, Malindi Diocese, has received a significant boost following a generous donation of Ksh1.5 million from the former President of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta,” the Diocese stated.

The former President was accompanied by his wife, Margaret Kenyatta, as well as Maina Gakuo and his wife Anna Kadzo Gakuo.

They were received by Malindi Bishop Willybard Lagho, who later took them around the construction site.

Uhuru commended the Diocese for its commitment to establishing a self-reliant pastoral institution, pledging to support the project until its completion.

On his part, Bishop Lagho thanked Uhuru for the donation and assured him that the Diocese would keep him updated on the progress of the development.

The Stella Maris Pastoral Centre is envisioned as a hub for spiritual renewal, pastoral training, and community development in the coastal region.

Once complete, it will provide facilities for leadership formation, lay minister training, and priestly development.

The centre will also host luxury serviced apartments, retail shops, restaurants, office spaces, and wellness amenities. Recreational facilities such as swimming pools, fitness centres, botanic gardens, community parks, and water sports areas will be accessible to both residents and visitors.
