Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru wants the Daily Nation to pull down the article insinuating that she, misappropriated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election campaign money.

The story also published on Nairobi News, according to Ms Waiguru’s lawyer, Aldrin Ojiambo was malicious, and was meant to taint the governor’s image.

The language used in the said article, the lawyer says was coached, alarmist and sensational in nature.

The former devolution CS wants online articles taken down and further publication arrested. She has also demanded that the daily ‘admits liability and offers an unreserved apology in terms to be approved’ by the county boss.

She also wants to ‘negotiate compensation on the footing of exemplary damages.’

Should Daily Nation meet the three demands within eight hours, Ms Waiguru will in seven days sue for defamation.

The ‘damaging article’ highlighted that of the Sh52 million campaign money, only Sh11 million could be accounted for.

Leader of Majority in the county assembly, James Murango said that his committee could comfortably account for the Sh11 million allocated to him.

”I only know of Sh11 million and and I can clearly account for it. I think the difference was a pledge by MCAs, MPs and Professionals,” he said.

According to Kirinyaga leaders, they were surprised that the money was spent, not leaving a cent yet there was no major political rally held in Kirinyaga.
