A man was found murdered after a confrontation with his wife over money she sent from Saudi Arabia for development at home in a village in Manga, Nyamira County.

The incident happened in Tindereti village of Borabu on January 16, 2026, police said adding the deceased was identified as Elijah Mogoi, 32.

His wife had been working in Saudi Arabia and used to send money home for development. Police said investigations had shown she flew back home last year in December only to find no project had been set up as agreed with the money sent.

This prompted a confrontation for the whole month in the family. The body of Mogoi was found outside his house with injuries in the face and head.

Police visited the scene and recovered blood-stained clothes in a basin under his bed and a sharp knife believed to have been the murder weapon.

The woman was arrested as the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And the body of a General Service Unit officer who was buried in a church compound in Kamagambo, Migori County was exhumed following a court order.

Constable Dan Ayoo Obura was a member of the controversial St Joseph Mission of Messiah in Africa Church in the area. Authorities have banned the activities of the church in the area after being linked to occultism.

Constable Obura died on March 27, 2025 before he was buried at the church compound the following day without the knowledge of the parents who reported the matter to the police suspecting foul play.

This prompted a probe into the incident and police moved to the court in Migori. The court ordered the exhumation of the body for further investigation, which happened on January 16.

A number of leaders and followers of the church are facing charges in courts.

The church was closed indefinitely following a series of alarming events and public outcry regarding an unknown number of deaths and illegal burials associated with it.

A family came forward to claim the body of their father, whose burial was reportedly being planned to happen within the precinct of the said church last year in April.

Church members claimed they were honouring the deceased’s will.

Officials revealed that two bodies were found at the church compound and the cause of death is yet to be determined pending postmortem examinations.

The family, accompanied by police officers, stormed the church, rescuing 57 members, including the body of the deceased.

The raid and rescue follow the church officials’ denial of claims and rumours suggesting that multiple individuals had been secretly buried in the church compound in the past in a cult-like movement.
