Police in Migori County launched investigations after a middle-aged woman was shot and robbed of cash and mobile phones by unknown assailants in Suna West Sub-County.

The victim was attacked on Tuesday at about 8:30 p.m. in Nyangubo area, Oruba Location, police said.

According to police, the incident was reported on Wednesday after officers from Oruba Police Station received information from members of the public about the robbery.

Investigators established that the attackers robbed the woman of Sh70,000 and two mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

Police later visited Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the victim had been admitted for treatment.

Medical assessment revealed that she had sustained a wound on her left shoulder, suspected to have been caused by a bullet.

She remained admitted at the hospital as she continued to receive treatment.

Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the attackers. No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report.

Such attacks have been on the rise in the area amid efforts to address the trend, police say.

Most attackers escape to the neighbouring Tanzania after their strikes.

Elsewhere, a 34-year-old goatherd was shot and injured during a confrontation with National Police Reservists (NPR) in Tana River County on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at Emaus Village in Mikinduni Location, Tana River Sub-County.

Police officers from Hola Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and launched investigations.

According to preliminary findings the victim was grazing his goats on cultivated farmland across the River Tana towards the Ijara direction when NPR officers approached him and instructed him to move the animals away from the farm.

Police said the herder allegedly became reluctant to comply, prompting the officers to begin driving the goats away from the cultivated land.

Investigators say Hussein then allegedly advanced towards the officers while armed with a spear and attempted to stab one of them.

The NPR officer in charge, reportedly fired his FN rifle, hitting the herder in the right thigh.

The injured man was rushed to Hola Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
