At least 12 people from Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, sustained serious injuries on Wednesday following violent clashes between two rival groups.

Police said one group identifying itself as “G12” and another allegedly aligned with Ilkerin Ward MCA Ezekiel Kiprono clashed.

G12, reportedly associated with an MP, is said to have held hostage an MCA who is a vocal critic of the MP in an apparent attempt to prevent the ward leader’s attendance at President William Ruto’s development tour in the region.

The violent clash between two rival groups at Emurua Dikirr Centre in Narok County led to 12 youths sustaining serious injuries, police said.

G12 members allegedly held the MCA hostage to prevent his attendance at Ruto’s development tour at Mogondo Technical Training Institute, where the head of state was issuing title deeds.

Victims and the aggrieved MCA have accused the G12 group of operating as a political gang, claiming it has been harassing locals for several months, allegedly with the aim of settling political scores.

They are now calling on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to take firm action against those behind the violence.

The injured individuals, who suffered wounds from pangas, machetes, and wooden sticks, were rushed to various medical facilities in Emurua Dikirr.

The incident has been officially reported at the Emurua Dikirr Police Station.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man is receiving treatment at Mwingi Level Four Hospital after being shot by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Migwani, Kitui County.

The incident occurred after an angry mob arrested two women suspected of livestock theft and recovered six goats believed to have been stolen from different homesteads.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. He is currently recuperating at the hospital as members of the public demand the immediate arrest of the OCS involved in the shooting.

Migwani Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Rukia Sitati condemned the rising cases of livestock theft in the region and warned that all those involved—including accomplices—would be brought to justice.

Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Nguna also criticized the incident, urging the police not to misuse their firearms.

“Police officers are entrusted with firearms to protect citizens, not to harm them,” he said. Nguna appealed to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that officers strictly adhere to the six legal circumstances under which they are permitted to use their firearms.
