    Lasagna mince is the flavorful meat sauce that forms the heart of a delicious lasagna. It’s made by simmering ground beef with tomatoes, herbs, and seasonings to create a rich, savory filling that complements the layers of pasta and cheese. The key to a great lasagna mince is slow cooking to allow the flavors to develop fully. Here is how to make lasagna mince.

    Ingredients

    • 500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork for extra flavor)
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)
    • 1 cup beef stock or red wine (optional)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil

    Steps to Make Lasagna Mince

    1. Heat the Oil
      • In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
    2. Cook the Garlic and Meat
      • Add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
      • Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
    3. Add the Tomatoes and Seasoning
      • Stir in the chopped tomatoes and tomato paste.
      • Add oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar.
      • Pour in the beef stock or red wine, if using, for extra depth of flavor.
    4. Simmer the Sauce
      • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
    5. Taste and Adjust
      • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If it’s too acidic, add a little more sugar.

    Using the Mince in Lasagna

    Once your lasagna mince is ready, layer it with cooked lasagna sheets and a creamy béchamel or cheese sauce. Bake the lasagna in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 30 to 40 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
