A Nairobi businessman and popular TikTok content creator, Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo, was arrested on Wednesday by plainclothes detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly posting a video that incited violence against police officers.

In a viral clip shared online, detectives were captured forcefully removing Maiyo from his logistics company office located at Kimathi House in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Hours after the video sparked public attention, the DCI confirmed his arrest in an official statement, accusing him of using social media to incite the public against law enforcement agencies.

“Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo, the suspect behind a viral video inciting violence against police officers and their families, has been arrested. The video had been uploaded to his TikTok account,” the statement reads.

“Detectives trailed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics.”

Maiyo, who has a following of over 25,000 on TikTok, is known for posting videos that highlight cases of alleged police brutality, government accountability, and also promoting his logistics business. However, the DCI claimed he had been operating a “discreet office” at Kimathi House.

He is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after processing.

Although authorities did not specify which video led to the arrest, a recent post on Maiyo’s TikTok account shows him directly addressing the DCI. In the four-minute video, he pleads with officers to stop abducting unarmed Kenyans and avoid being used to silence activists.

He also appeals to the officers’ conscience, asking them to think of their own families when carrying out such operations.

Maiyo has previously posted several videos calling for justice in cases involving alleged police killings, including that of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang.

Following his arrest, Kenyans have taken to social media demanding his immediate release, with many praising his efforts to speak out against police excesses.
