The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened applications for examiner training ahead of the October and November national examinations.

KNEC announced a training programme for examiners who will mark the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The training will take place in March and April 2026.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to pay a training fee of Sh10,500. The fee should only be paid after receiving an official notification through SMS and the application portal confirming their selection.

The training will include both online and residential sessions. Selected trainees will first receive instructions on accessing online learning materials before attending the physical training.

KNEC said the venue for the residential training will be communicated later. The programme will be strictly residential, meaning participants must stay at the designated training centre throughout the training period.

After completing the course, qualified examiners will be engaged to mark KJSEA and KCSE papers depending on staffing needs and recruitment criteria for each subject.

For KJSEA, available papers include English Composition and Literary Analysis, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Kenya Sign Language, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, Creative Arts and Sports, and Pre-Technical Studies.

KCSE training opportunities are available in Kiswahili Insha, Lugha and Fasihi, Mathematics, Islamic Religious Education, Home Science, Computer Studies Practical, French, German and Arabic.

To qualify, applicants must be practising teachers or tutors in the relevant subject areas at the examination level or higher. They must be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Applicants must also hold at least a Diploma in Education, have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience, and must not be under disciplinary action by their employer. They must be recommended by their head of institution and be aged 50 years or below.

Tutors from teachers’ training colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions are encouraged to apply, especially for Home Science, Art, Music, Computer Studies, Woodwork, Metalwork and Building Construction papers for KJSEA.

Interested teachers should apply through the KNEC examiners’ portal. Those with existing CP2 accounts can log in using their credentials, while applicants who have forgotten their passwords can reset them using their mobile numbers. New applicants are required to create an account before submitting their applications and selecting available vacancies.
