Sebastian Szymański is a Polish professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger.
He currently features for the French Ligue 1 club Rennes and represents the Poland national team, for which he has earned dozens of caps and scored several goals.
Known for his technical ability, vision, dribbling, and energy on the pitch, Szymański rose through the ranks of Polish football to establish himself as a regular in top European competitions and major international tournaments.
Siblings
Sebastian has four older siblings, among them two brothers named Paweł and Artur who also played football at youth and amateur levels.
Paweł competed in the same teams as other local talents in the region, while Artur showed promise as an offensive midfielder in school and youth setups before his development plateaued.
Their father, a former footballer himself, supported the boys’ interest in the sport and often attended matches until his death from cancer in 2013, when Sebastian was around 13 or 14 years old.
After that loss, the responsibility of raising the five children fell largely on their mother, Maria, who worked various jobs to support the household.
Career
Szymański began training at the age of six with local club TOP 54 Biała Podlaska.
In 2013 he joined the youth academy of Legia Warsaw, progressing through the ranks and making appearances for the reserve team before breaking into the senior side.

He debuted for Legia’s first team and contributed to their domestic success in the late 2010s, establishing himself as a promising talent in the Ekstraklasa.
In 2019 he transferred to Russian Premier League side Dynamo Moscow, where he became a regular and earned recognition from fans as player of the month on multiple occasions.
In the summer of 2022 he joined Dutch club Feyenoord on a season-long loan, helping the team secure the Eredivisie title.
The following year he moved permanently to Turkish club Fenerbahçe, where he made over 100 appearances across all competitions and featured regularly in European matches.
In January 2026 he signed with French side Rennes, continuing his career in one of Europe’s top five leagues while remaining a key option for the Polish national team, which he first represented at senior level in September 2019.
Accolades
With Legia Warsaw, Szymański won the Ekstraklasa title in the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons as well as the Polish Cup in 2017–18.
During his loan at Feyenoord he claimed the Eredivisie championship in 2022–23.
At Fenerbahçe he lifted the Turkish Super Cup in 2025.
On an individual level he has received awards such as Ekstraklasa Young Player of the Month and selection to the Eredivisie Team of the Month.
Internationally he has participated in the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship with Poland, accumulating more than 50 senior caps.
