Disgraced Former KQ CEO Mbuvi Ngunze and Deputy Governor Kisumu (R) in the SafariLink Flight from Kisumu

Mbuvi Ngunze, one of the individuals credited with bringing down Kenya Airways has been announced as the Chairman of newly launched Safarilink.

During the inaugural flights to Kisumu which were launched by Raila Odinga, Mbuvi Ngunze prominently sat there as the new boss after having left a mess of the former national carrier, Kenya Airways.

Attendees at the function suspect that Mbuvi is a representative of well connected individuals who helped Mbuvi Ngunze and Titus Naikuni bring down Kenya Airways with the hope of launching their own private airlines to take over the from the gap left.

With Kenya Airways limping along, Ethiopia Air has fought to take over the African skies with Rwandair also trying to have a share of the pie.

SafariLink is the sixth flight operator to fly from Nairobi to Kisumu after Kenya Airways, Jambo Jet, Fly 540, Silverstone and FlySax.

“Being the sixth airline flying here it’s a sign that Kisumu is fast growing into a regional transport and economic hub that will open up trade in this part of the country,” says Mr Odinga.

A flight from the Wilson airport will cost from Ksh4,500, inclusive of tax according to information from Safarilink.

Kisumu lies on the northeastern shore of Lake Victoria and is a commercial, industrial, and transportation center of western Kenya, serving a locality populated by almost four million people. It is also the chief terminus for the agricultural produce of Nyanza and Western provinces. Industries are centered on processing agricultural products, brewing, and textile manufacturing.

“Safarilink is proud to announce the launch of a Twice Daily service to Kisumu from the 3rd September 2018. Our Kisumu service will allow passengers a convenient immediate connection to all our best Safari and Beach destinations such as Diani (Ukunda) Vipingo (Mombasa) Lamu, Exotic Zanzibar, and Masai Mara,” reads a statement from Safarilink.
