Safaricom has inked a deal with Western Union that will allow M-pesa customers to send and receive money at any Western Union branch centers across the world.

Under the deal, Mpesa customers will be allowed to send and receive a maximum of Ksh140,000 per day globally through their mobile phones.

The new mobile money transfer service will allow transactions in 130 world currencies.

However, Mpesa global bank transfers will only be available in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Safaricom’s Chief Financial Services Officer Sitoyo Lopokoiyit stated that the new service is set to bring the convenience, safety, and speed of M-PESA to the rest of the world and will enable Kenyans to send and receive money across the world from the comfort of their mobile phones.

Customers can access the new service by dialing *840# or by selecting “M-PESA Global” under the M-PESA menu on mySafaricomApp.

Chief Customer Officer Sylvia Mulinge says, Safaricom is in talks with the government to increase daily transaction, that currently stands at Ksh140,000.
