Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s imported Toyota Prado is among the 568 cars set for auction by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for overstaying in the port of Mombasa.
In a gazette notice, the taxman gave owners of the cars 30 days to clear the vehicles from the port to ease congestion, or risk losing the cars to auction.
KRA chief manager for Port Operations Joseph Kaguru has already invited prospective buyers to view the goods on December 17 and 18 ahead of the auction.
“Notice is given that unless the goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kilindini within 30 days of this notice, they will be sold by public auction on 19th December, 2018,” says Mr Kaguru.

Most of the cars belong to second-hand car dealers who include Autobox Motors, Zain Trading, Jan Japan, Beru Trading and Rift Cars, who have at least five cars set for auction. Jan Africa Investments has 49 vehicles earmarked for auction.
Early this year, KRA collected at least Ksh62.2 million from the first public auction of the year that involved 53 assorted goods, including vehicles, household items and construction materials.
In the planned auction, bidders expected to pay at least 25 percent of the value of goods.
