Amani National Coalition (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to “freeze further dealings in public assets” and step up the fight against corruption.

Addressing the media from his Nairobi office, the ANC leader made note of the numerous graft scandals running into billions of schillings. The most recent saga being the Kenya Airways and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport merger.

“In the newest developments on State graft, the government is trying to merge Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Airways in a highly opaque and suspicious manner,” he said.

“We cannot keep wondering when these people will get satisfied. Must they bleed the country dry to its very last drop of blood to feed their thirst for wealth?” he posed.

The deal, he said should be halted until public confidence is restored.

Mudavadi also said that the government has poorly managed the striking aviation workers issues who might lose their jobs should the merger prove successful.

According to the former presidential candidate, the workers gave a strike notice as is required by law and those in charge of Industrial relations in government should have been fired by now for the Wednesday occurrences.

“What we have witnessed is completely in conflict with civilised behaviour. Workers’ rights are protected in the Constitution of Kenya,” he said.

But the Transport CS James Macharia has since said that the strike is illegal and the workers branded a bunch of “criminals.”

“The goings-on in KQ and KAA are happening against the backdrop of Kenya’s recent charter to have direct flights to the United States. What message is the government giving to those who opened up the US market?” he lamented.

Other scandals also running into billions of shillings at the expense of the common Kenyan as outlined by Mudavadi include: Kenya Power, Galana-Kulalu, Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Youth Service, and Ministry of Environment.

Others are; Ketraco, National Health Insurance Fund (mainly Afya House), Eurobond and at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
