10-man AFC Leopards edged out floundering Mathare United 2-1 at the Machakos’ Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday to record their 11th win in the 2018 Kenyan Premier League this season.

Leopards’ leading top scorer Whyvonne Isuza and Marvin Omondi were on the mark while, James Situma, who was later sent off scored for the slum boys.

The win takes the 1998 champions joint third on the log standings on 42 points same as Bandari.

Isuza stepped forward to convert from the spot at the half hour mark after Situma fouled Jeffrey Owiti outside the box for the opener.

Situma would redeem himself on the nick of half time, pocking home a loose ball inside the box from a free-kick to restore parity.

Ingwe regained the lead in the second half through Omondi, who easily tapped in from inside the danger area after Owiti had done all the donkey work.

Isuza, who grabbed his 11 goal of the season to go joint second on the top scorer’s chart alongside Gor Mahia’s Jacques Tuyisenge, received a second yellow card for retaliation in the 64th minute.

Despite being numerically dwarfed, the coach Rodolfo Zapata’s outfit fought tooth and nail to hand the coach Francis Kimanzi’s side their 6th loss and compound their woes in the KPL.

In the other matches of the day, second placed Sofapaka edged out Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to cut Gor’s lead to 13 points.

Gor, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Nakumatt on Saturday, lead the pack on 56 points with three matches at hand.

Sony Sugar’s resurgence continued as they thump relegation-bound Thika United 3-1 in Awendo.

The millers are now 10-points off the red line at position 12 with 30 points.
