    Airtel Operations Across Africa Register Sh9.5 Billion Profit

    Mobile phone company Airtel has reported a Sh9.5 billion profit across from 15 operations in Africa.

    The use of Airtel data and Airtel Money saw revenues for the the mobile phone company reach Sh83.8 million in the quarter which ended in September.

    The company also saw an increase in customer base during this years quarter with over  81.9 million registered customers. During the same quarter last year the company recorded a 78.1 million customer base.

    As a result, Airtel’s data customers now account for 21.7 million (26.5 percent) of the customer base while 9.5 million (4.9 per cent) account for Airtel money customer base.

    “Our focus on acquiring quality customers has resulted in a lower customer churn for the quarter at 4.9 per cent as compared to 5.3 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year,” the statement said.

    Despite these reports the telco has reduced its total number of staff currently employed in Africa from 4,058 to 3,737.

    According to the company the move is part of its plan to cut back on operations in Africa.
