After three straight losses, Kenya finally registered a 21-17 win over Japan in the women’s rugby sevens. The win earned them a ninth-place playoff on Saturday. Like their male counterparts, the Shujaa, the Lionesses failed to go past the group stage. The Lionesses lost their opening games against New Zealand 29-7, Russia 35-12, and Great Britain 31-0. Kenya has so far competed in 13 disciplines at the Tokyo Olympics including Bixing, Volleyball and Rugby losing in all of them. Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has apologised to his family and club after images of the former England and Manchester United forward were shared online. The photos appeared to show Rooney asleep in a chair with women posing beside him. Former US President Barack Obama has joined NBA Africa as a strategic partner, the National Basketball Association announced on Tuesday. Obama “will help advance the league’s social responsibility efforts across the continent, including programs and partnerships that support greater gender equality and economic inclusion,” according to a news release from the NBA. Kenya Rugby Sevens skipper Andrew Noel Omondi Amonde has retired after thirteen years of service. Amonde last dance for the Shujaa was a 22-0 win over Ireland in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics’ 9th place match early Wednesday morning. He was competing at his second Olympics. The 37-year-old television producer by profession has been Shujaa captain since 2012. Under his stint, Kenya won their first World Rugby Sevens Series leg when they triumphed in Singapore in 2016.
