On Thursday, Kenya recorded 1,008 new cases of Coronavirus, from a sample size of 6,038 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 59,595 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. The cumulative tests are now 723,210. From the cases 972 are Kenyans and 36 are foreigners. Over the same period, 802 patients have recovered from the disease; 679 from home-based care program, while 123 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 39,193. Inspector General of Police (IG) Hillary Mutyambai has ordered police to start enforcing the 10 pm to 4 am curfew from today (Friday). In a statement, the IG instructed the officers to enforce the curfew “without fear or favour” and with strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 68 students and 5 teachers at Bahati Girls Secondary School in Nakuru County, have tested positive for the Coronavirus. Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to deploy Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to enforce the COVID-19 containment measures. Kenya on Wednesday recorded 1,494 new Covid-19 positive cases, pushing the country’s caseload to 58,587. In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the cases were from 8,839 samples tested over a period of 24 hours. This brings the total number of samples tested so far to 717,172. Of the positive cases, 870 are male and 624 are female while the youngest case is a 10-month old infant and the oldest 98. A Modern Coast bus headed to Mombasa caught fire at Masimba, Makueni County on Tuesday evening. Witnesses said that the fire started from the bus’s underside and soon it was engulfed in flames. Kenya has in the last 24 hours recorded 492 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 3,728. This brings the total number of cases to 57,093. 474 are Kenyans and 18 are foreigners. Kilifi County Assembly has been closed after a staffer tested positive for the novel COVID-19. Other workers have been advised to work from home in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
