Treasury has approved Sh810 million for salaries of Postal Corporation staff who were yet to receive their dues since March. The employees petitioned Parliament in September to investigate the agency’s finances in a bid to resolve delayed payment of salaries. Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has blamed the nurses strike for incident during which a mother gave birth outside Pumwani Hospital. The incident which took place on September 13 happened two days after nurses went on a “go-slow”. The caregivers have since returned to work after they and the NMS leadership agreed on a return to work formula. In the last 24 hours, Kenya has confirmed 105 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s total caseload to 36,829. In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the infections were from a 2,868 sample size. The cumulative tests now stand at 514,482. Of the positive cases, all are Kenyans except two who are foreigners. 83 of the new cases are male and 22 are female while the youngest case is a two-year-old and the oldest is aged 95. The US Commerce Department is planning on restricting the use of TikTok and WeChat starting Sunday. According to the Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the apps pose a risk to national security. Employees of troubled supermarket chain, Tuskys on Friday staged protests in Nairobi’s CBD area as they demanded three months pay. The protesters were part of a group of staffers laid off by the retailer.
