Jubilee Party has endorsed Uasin Gishu senator Margaret Kamar for the Senate Deputy Speaker seat. The seat fell vacant following Tharaka Nithi senator Kithure Kindiki’s ouster two weeks ago. Kamar is among the five candidates who submitted their nomination papers and relevant credentials by Friday, 3 PM. Kenya has confirmed 143 new cases of coronavirus after testing 2,959 sample size, Health CAS Rashid Aman has said. The total number of positive cases has as a result shot to 1,888. In terms of age, the youngest is a one month old baby and the oldest 88 years of age. 110 of the new cases are male while 33 are female. All the newly detected infections are Kenyans. The former Starehe MP has been in hospital for a little over a week after testing positive for the coronavirus. Safaricom Foundation on Friday donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to health workers in Mombasa county. The gear, the foundation said, was worth Sh3 million and is meant to boost the fight against the coronavirus disease. Mombasa County governor Hassan Joho received the PPEs. Kenya has recorded 127 newly detected infections after testing a 3,831 sample size. Addressing reporters at Afya House during the daily COVID-19 briefing, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the toll now stands at 1,745. “The high figures that we have reported in the past few days are because of the increased samples size that we are testing and also proof that the virus in our midst,” CAS Mwangangi stated. The government wants Fairmont Group to explain its reasons for closing two of its establishments and sending home all its employees. The Mater Misericordiae Hospital has announced plans to slash employee salaries by up to 50 percent, ad send others on unpaid leave. This follows a reduced number of patients visiting the hospital due to Covid-19, hence reduced revenues. The actor was finally arraigned before a Kisutu Resident magistrate on Wednesday where he was charged with failure to register a SIM Card.
