President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday unveiled an 8-point stimulus package meant to jump start the economy even as the country grapples with COVID-19. He allocated Sh53.7 billion to rebuilding infrastructure, education, health, tourism and business sectors. The first element was infrastructure where the head of state set aside Sh5 billion for the rebuilding of access roads and foot bridges damaged by floods. Kenya’s virus cases have risen to 1,192 after 31 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. This was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta during an address at State House where he rolled out an 8-point economic stimulus program amounting to Sh53.7 billion. “The coronavirus pandemic has and will continue to undermine our efforts to revitalize our economy for the unforeseeable future. We have cumulatively tested 57, 650 samples out of which 1,192 persons have tested positive and lost 50,” he said. Kenya and Tanzania have agreed to test truck drivers for COVID-19 from both states. The deal does however have one stipulation. The two countries will make public the results but without mentioning the nationality of the positive cases. In a statement signed by Transport CS James Macharia and his Tanzanian counterpart Issack Kamwele, the data will be sent to mutually recognized authorities. Tharaka Nithi senator Kithure Kindiki has been axed as the senate deputy speaker. 54 Senators voted in support of Kindiki’s ouster while 7 voted against. The reason for his ouster is mainly because he did not attend a Parliamentary Group meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 11 at State House. Virus cases have shot to 1,161 after testing a 2,567 sample size, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said. Speaking from Machakos County, the CS said that 52 people have tested positive in the last 24 hours. 23 cases are from Nairobi,  Mombasa 7, Busia 7, Kajiado (4), Nakuru (2), Kiambu (1), Taita Taveta (1), Kilifi (1) and Transzoia (1). Police on Friday teargassed crowds trying to force their way into Eastleigh. The people were reportedly caught up with at Mlango Kubwa, an estate that borders Eastleigh. They were going to the business area to look for menial jobs while others were going to hawk their goods. Former Starehe MP and Jesus Is Alive Ministries founder Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been hospitalized. She is said to have been taken ill and has been diagnosed with the novel COVID-19. Sources indicate that the former Nairobi County governor aspirant had some 18 people over at her Runda home before she was admitted to an undisclosed hospital. Kenya has recorded 80 new coronavirus case from a sample size of 3,102, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said on Thursday. This now brings the total number of virus cases to 1109. 41 cases are from Nairobi, 20 from Mombasa and 7  from Siaya, Kwale  (6), Garissa (3), Kajiado (2) and Taita Taveta (1). A man who is said to have sealed his wife’s genitalia last week has been arrested. James Kifo Muriuki was apprehended from his hideout at Kaningo in Kitui County on Wednesday. A theft in Kisumu county’s Kondele area has baffled residents. The thief, yet to be caught up with, is said to have booked himself into a hotel, City Park hotel, that shares a wall with Shivling Supermarket from which he stole valuables of unknown value including television sets and cash money.
