Kenya’s virus cases now stand at 582 after 47 persons tested positive for the coronavirus. Addressing the press from Afya House, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that 32 of the new cases are from Mombasa, 11 from Nairobi, 1 from Kiambu. Busia had two cases and Kwale one. One of the new cases traveled from Tanzania. 18 of the Mombasa cases are from Old Town while 5 of the 11 cases reported in Nairobi are from Eastleigh. The Ministry of Education has announced measures they will take so as to recover the seven weeks lost due to the COVID-19 crisis. After testing 1077 samples in the last 24 hours, COVID-19 cases have risen to 535, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said. Addressing reporters at Afya House, the CS noted that 45 people have tested positive for the respiratory disease. 29 of the new cases are from Nairobi, 11 from Mombasa and 5 from Wajir. 44 cases are Kenyan nationals while one is a Somali national. Motor vehicle importers want clearing and forwarding services to be classified as essential services. This is after National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) halted the services in Mombasa over the rapid spread of COVID-19. Out of 1012 samples tested in the last 24 hours, 25 have tested positive for the coronavirus, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi announced. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefing, Dr Mwangangi said the number of cases now stands at 490. 15 of the new cases are from Nairobi and 10 from Mombasa. As the country grapples with the spread of the novel COVID-19, Kenya’s largest telecommunications company Safaricom is making sure health care providers in the frontline stay connected. In a statement on Monday, the teleco’s chief executive Peter Ndegwa said medics will receive 12GB monthly data, 600 voice call minutes and 2,000 SMSs for a period of three months.
