High court judge Said Juma Chitembwe has admitted to having had on his person USD7,000 (Sh770,000) when he and justice Aggrey Muchelule were arrested in July. Nyeri deputy governor Caroline Karugu has sued the county government and governor Mutahi Kahiga over non-payment of salary. In her suit filed at the Nyeri Employment and Labour Court, Dr Karugu claimed that she has not received her salary since November 2019. She is entitled to a monthly pay of Ksh.685,250. She also alleged that she has been denied allowances including fuel allowance. She has apparently had to spend Ksh.442,107 on fuel. Widow of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen has protested the death of one of her dogs in the care of Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) in Karen. According to Sarah Wairimu, she received the news of Major’s demise on June 26. The agency, she said, informed her that the dog had died of cancer. Kenya on Tuesday recorded 704 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the tally 241,134, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said. The cases were from a sample size of 6,776 with a positivity rate of 10.4 per cent. The cumulative tests stand at 2,421,633. The CS also noted that five patients had succumbed to the disease on diverse dates, pushing the death toll to 4,800. Irate residents of Likuyani, Kakamega county on Tuesday torched a lorry after a pupil was killed. The lorry driver, Joseph Gichuru Karanja, hit Cynthia Matasi and her father, Boniface Kaikai at around 7.30am in Chemororoch on Kitale-Eldoret road. National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has reduced weekly flights to New York to two. According to management, the third flight had to be cut due to the reduced number of passengers. KQ has recorded a cabin factor of below 65 percent compared to over 75 percent between June and end of August. “We are now in low season and demand for travel on the route has gone down. Former nominated senator Paul Njoroge wants the general elections moved to 2023. In a petition filed in court on Monday, the former legislator argued that the procurement being undertaken by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is illegal. Tanzania has suspended yet another newspaper for allegedly publishing false information. 480 people have tested positive for Covid-19, from a sample size of 5,668 tested in the last 24 hours, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said. The positivity rate is now at 8.5%. Total confirmed positive cases are now 240,172 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,411,720. Of the new cases, 448 are Kenyans while 32 are foreigners. 254 are males while 226 are females.
