Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has left the Wiper Party for Muungano Party. The county boss defected from the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party to rejoin Muungano which he left in 2017 for the former. Speaking on Monday, Kibwana said he will seek the presidency on a Muungano party ticket in next year’s general elections. He averred that he will launch his bid in Nairobi in days to come. Six Kenyan fishermen are facing attempted robbery with violence charges in Tanzania and are set to go to trial today (Monday). The suspects were arrested in May while on a fishing expedition in Lake Victoria. Their boats were also seized. They are said to have been in a heated confrontation with their Tanzanian counterparts forcing the authorities to swing into action. They were taken to Sota Beach police in North Mara District. Kenya’s FIA rally stars trio of Hamza Anwar, McRae Kimathi and Jeremy Wahome are all set for the Machakos Rally. Zhejiang Chenjian Construction (Africa) has announced the closure of a construction site where nine people perished following a crane accident. The Thursday afternoon incident left nine dead, two of whom were Chinese nationals. In a statement, the ZJCC General Manager Zong Xudong said that Qwetu Residences site in Nairobi’s Hurlingham area will remain closed as they work closely with authorities to determine the cause of accident. “We are continuing to cooperate and work with all relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident. 788 people have tested positive for Covid-19, from a sample size of 6,690 tested in the last 24 hours, Ministry of Health has confirmed. The positivity rate is now 11.8%. Total confirmed positive cases are now 234,589 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,358,930. From the cases 768 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. 399 are females while 389 are males. A suspect behind a fake job syndicate at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been nabbed by DCI detectives. Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has denied any wrongdoing in the banning of 27 maize flour brands. Kebs managing director, Bernard Njiraini, on Thursday said due process was followed before the maize meal brands were withdrawn from the market. Nine people died after a crane crumbled at a construction site in Hurlingham, Nairobi, on Thursday afternoon. Seven of the deceased persons were Kenyans while two were Chinese nationals. The Qwetu Residences site is located opposite the Department of Defence headquarters.
