Employees of Multi-National food processing company, Del Monte have downed their tools citing inhumane working conditions, unlawful labour employment policies, irregular dismissal of union representatives and poor pay. The workers have for the second day in a row paralyzed operations at the facility while accusing the firm of backing labour malpractices by flouting the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed between them. Detectives from the Serious Crimes department have arrested a man who threatened to kill another and cut him into small pieces of flesh. Amar Dilip Shah was arrested along General Mathenge street in Westlands area, Nairobi after he committed the offence. The Ministry of Energy has announced a 15 percent reduction in electricity tarrifs effective January 1 2022. In the last 24 hours, 2,444 have tested positive from Covid-19 from a sample size of 9,269 tested. This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases to 309,130 and the cumulative tests conducted to 3,085,450. The positivity rate is now 26.4 percent. Today, 1,066 patients have recovered from the disease. Out of these, 1,016 have been discharged from the home based care and isolation program while 50 are from health facilities across the country. Instagram is testing a new feature that will see users get private likes on their stories. Former US President Donald Trump’s social media network is set to launch on iOS on February 21. The app dubbed Truth Social is being developed by the former President’s media company Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG). Twitter is rolling out a new feature dubbed ‘quote tweet with reaction’ which allows users to react to a tweet using a photo or a video. Under the normal tweet, the retweet menu will give users a new ‘quote tweet with reaction’ option alongside the usual ‘retweet’ and ‘quote tweet’. The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has regained control of its Facebook page six weeks after it was allegedly hacked. “We wish to inform members of the public that our Facebook page has been restored,” the office alerted users on social media. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has launched a global campaign aimed at curbing violence against women and girls online. The agency has teamed up with Rakaya Fetuga, an award-winning poet and spoken-word artist, to create the Bodyrights Movement campaign. TikTok is reportedly testing a new feature that is similar to Twitter’s retweet button.The ‘repost’ button will help users access share-worthy content without having to DM their friends for the clips. Kenya Airways will soon start exporting fresh produce from Kisumu after a successful test run of the service on Tuesday. Kenyans will soon start paying more for maize flour as demand for the commodity soars this January after the festive season. According to the millers, the demand was expected to rise in December but did not due to consumption of other meals during Christmas and other festivities. “In December there is normally lower demand for maize flour as households consume more of other goods other than maize flour. Eight people have been confirmed dead after a 14 seater matatu hit a stationary lorry at Musembe, along the Webuye-Eldoret road this morning.
