Algeria has asked 12 French embassy staff to leave the country within 48 hours, France’s foreign minister has said. Jean-Noel Barrot added that it was linked to the indictment of three Algerians in France on Friday, one of whom is a consular official. They are accused of involvement in the abduction last year of Amir Boukhors, 41, a critic of Algeria’s government with a large audience on social media, who was reportedly granted asylum in France in 2023. At least three people died while nine others were seriously injured in a grisly accident at Kwambira along Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Monday morning. The crash occurred after a 14-seater matatu heading to Nairobi collided with a canter. The accident happened April 14 at about 6 am. Witnesses blamed the incident on speeding by the matatu driver. Police said another fatal accident occurred on Thursday at the same spot where seven people died when their private 14 seater vehicle rolled multiple times after a tyre burst that caused the driver to lose control. A 32-year-old woman was killed and her body dumped on the roadside in Amwathii Sub-Location of Kabachi Location, Meru County. It is also believed the woman was sexually assaulted before her murder on April 12, police said. The lifeless body of the woman was found lying in a pool of blood on the roadside in the village with visible serious injuries on the forehead and the back of the head.
