The Kenya Meteorological Department announced that heavy rains will be experienced across the country in the next three days starting today, Sunday, March 9 from 3pm Sunday to Tuesday 9pm. The department wants individuals and government agencies to take measures to address effects of the expected rains. Two people were Saturday killed when a light aircraft they were in crashed and burst into flames in Ikanga area, Taita Taveta County. Officials said the victims were a pilot and a trainee. They were on training sessions when the aircraft crashed at about 12.30pm, witnesses and police said. Locals and fire fighters from the local authorities responded but did not manage to help the victims. Such accidents are common involving students and pilots. A dozen people were injured in a shooting at a Toronto pub and three suspects are still at large, police in the Canadian city say. The shooting took place at 22:39 on Friday local time (03:39 GMT Saturday) near Scarborough city centre in eastern Toronto. Authorities said 12 people were injured, including six with gunshot wounds. An autopsy on the body of Dennis Muthui, who was shot dead by police officers during protests at Nairobi’s Majengo slums, revealed that the 26-year-old died out of bleeding as a result of a gunshot wound. Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor said the wound was direct to the stomach. He added the victim was shot at close range with a small-caliber weapon, probably a pistol. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service (KPS) Eliud Lagat suspended all local security peace meetings conducted by village elders in Elgeyo Marakwet to allow police officers to carry out security operations effectively. A police officer was arraigned in connection with a robbery with violence incident that occurred in Mtito Andei on July 22, 2024. Facing three charges of robbery with violence, 37-year-old Denis Wafula Wanambisi appeared before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Makindu. Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman died of natural causes about a week after his wife Betsy Arakawa, who died after contracting a rare virus, a New Mexico medical investigator has said. Hackman, 95, died at his Santa Fe home from coronary artery disease, with advanced Alzheimer’s disease a contributing factor.
