Scott Bloomquist, a Dirt Late Model racing legend and Hall of Famer, was tragically killed in a plane crash near his home in Tennessee, according to multiple reports. He was 60.  Local authorities confirmed to The Rogersville Review that Bloomquist died in a small aircraft crash near his home in Mooresburg early Friday morning. Jack Russell, Great White singer, died after a battle with Lewy body dementia age 63, his family announced Thursday on Instagram. “Jack is loved and remembered for his sense of humor, exceptional zest for life, and unshakeable contribution to rock and roll where his legacy will forever thrive,” his family’s statement reads. President William Ruto Friday directed Treasury to open talks with teachers and lecturers’ unions and avert looming strikes in the education sector. Ruto told the Treasury, Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) and the Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) to meet and iron out pending issues that have led to issuing of strike notices. Social media personality Scophine Aoko Otieno was Friday arrested and detained over a number of posts she has made.  Aoko was picked up from her house in the city by police who took her to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for grilling. Travellers should consider getting vaccinated against mpox if they will be visiting affected areas in Africa, new advice says.  The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has updated its recommendations in response to outbreaks of a new strain of the virus. Other continents, including Europe, can expect some cases too, it says. Douglas Kanja Kirocho is expected to take over as Kenya’s Inspector General of Police. Four people were Friday arraigned over possession of explosive cannisters outside the house of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi in Nairobi.  Duncan Odhiambo Otieno, Calvin Ochieng Odongo, Kennedy Ochieng Asewe and Josiah Otimo appeared before Milimani Magistrate Rose Ndumbi and denied the charge. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has denied claims of a shortage of number plates. In a statement on X, the Authority clarified that there are 102,000 uncollected plates nationwide. “The country is not experiencing a shortage of number plates. Former roads minister Franklin Bett was Thursday night admitted in hospital with a head injury after being injured in an accident along Awasi-Kericho road, Kisumu County. Police said he was in stable condition at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu. Two other passengers and his driver were also injured and taken to hospital, police said. Kenya Railways on Wednesday, August 14, launched the use of the newly introduced premium class coaches on its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger trains.
