A Ugandan nanny who has been on the run following her involvement in a daring robbery plot targeting her employer in Nairobi’s Eastleigh was arrested in Nairobi after two months of being on the run.  Nabalayo Everline Loice, 23 was taken into custody by detectives from DCI Starehe after a robbery incident that unfolded on November 1, 2024. The Biden administration said Tuesday that a Sudanese paramilitary group and its proxies are committing genocide in a civil war with the country’s military that has killed tens of thousands of people, leveling sanctions on the group’s leader and affiliated companies. US President Joe Biden has called the exiled candidate for Venezuela’s opposition, Edmundo González, “the true winner” of the country’s presidential election last July after meeting him at the White House.  In a social media post, Biden said Venezuela deserved a “peaceful transfer of power”. At least 53 people have been confirmed dead and 62 are injured after a major earthquake struck the mountainous Tibet region on Tuesday morning, Chinese state media reported. The earthquake that hit Tibet’s holy Shigatse city around 09:00 local time (01:00 GMT) had a magnitude of 7.1 and a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), according to data from the US Geological Survey, which also showed a series of aftershocks in the area. Al-Shabaab leader Mohamed Mire also known as Abu Abdirahman, who served as the militant group’s finance head during the Westgate Mall and Dusit-D2 attacks in 2013 and 2019, respectively, was killed in an airstrike on December 24, 2024. Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in her house in Kitengela, Kajiado County. The body of Angeline Muthina was found lying dead in her residential house on Sunday long after she had died. Police said they are yet to establish the cause of the death. The woman lived alone in the house. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations. Elsewhere in Jamhuri area, Kibera, the body of a man aged 35 was found in a thicket. US President Joe Biden has announced a ban on offshore oil and gas drilling along most of America’s coastline, weeks before Donald Trump takes office. A senior Hamas official has shared with the BBC a list of 34 hostages that the Palestinian group says it is willing to release in the first stage of a potential ceasefire agreement with Israel. It is unclear how many of those named remain alive.
