Former sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was Thursday arrested in a probe into claims of extortion racket targeting Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa. Two suspects were Wednesday lynched after being accused of smuggling ammunition in Dabel area, Moyale, Marsabit County.  The area is near the Kenya-Ethiopia border and currently experiencing tension and clashes between groups seeking to control gold mining sites. The government two weeks ago banned mining activities at the sites. On Wednesday, locals cornered the two while riding on a motorcycle and stoned them before setting their bodies and the cargo on fire. Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale Thursday met a group of leaders from Uasin Gishu County to solve a long standing land dispute among locals with Kenya Defence Forces.  This follows a directive by President William Ruto to solve the dispute. Kenya will allow Uganda’s state oil firm to import petroleum products through its port of Mombasa, its energy minister was quoted as saying in a local newspaper on Thursday, to end a row that had caused diplomatic problems between the two neighbours. Spanish prosecutors are seeking two-and-a-half years jail for disgraced ex-football chief Luis Rubiales who is facing trial for kissing Spain midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips against her will, court documents showed Wednesday. A police officer drowned as he and his colleagues were on a swimming expedition at a swimming pool in Siaya County. The victim is among three who drowned separately on Sunday March 24, police said. The incident involving a police officer happened at Golf Resort on Sunday evening, police said. Police are investigating the source of bullets recovered from two civilian suspects in the Makongeni area, Thika Town. Detectives said they were on patrol in the area when they noticed two young men behaving suspiciously. One of them threw something and fled, but his accomplice was apprehended. Two pillion passengers who were on a motorcycle were killed after falling off in Kakuma, Turkana County. The incident happened along Kakuma-Lokichogio Road at Lifeworks Secondary School. The motorcycle was carrying three pillion passengers when the rider lost control after a tyre burst, veered off the road, and collided head-on with an oncoming car. As a result, two unknown pillion passengers sustained serious head injuries and died while undergoing treatment at Kakuma Mission Hospital. A police officer is among four people who were killed following heavy rains experienced in Nairobi. Many other people were displaced following the downpour, officials said fearing a disaster. The rains started Sunday night and rained overnight to Monday flooding most places due to poor drainage. At least two members of the National Police Reserve (NPR) were killed in an attack by suspected terrorists in Witu, Lamu County.  Police said another reservist was injured in the attack on Saturday night. The attackers also burnt a house and a motorcycle before stealing foodstuff. Witnesses said the victims were shot and killed after a battle. The survivor had a bullet wound in the leg. At least four passengers were Saturday March 23 evening killed in an accident involving a matatu in the Koroma area along the Ngaru-Gatuto road in Kirinyaga County. Police said the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) before it overturned. Police said the injured were rushed to hospital.
