Kenya Power is in partnership with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to fight rising cases of vandalism and to protect electricity equipment. DCI sent 42 officers to work collaboratively with Kenya Power’s security team and other relevant functions to stem vandalism, theft of electricity and fiber, as well as illegal encroachment of wayleaves. The High Court Thursday ordered the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions to produce Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s key liason person Osman Khalif Abdi. Members of the National Assembly approved the deployment of 1,000 police officers to Haiti. The lawmakers on Thursday adopted the joint committees’ report recommending that the House approve the deployment. “The Committees having reviewed Kenya’s obligations to the UN, its existing legal framework, submissions through public participation and submissions by stakeholders recommends that Parliament approves the proposed deployment of the National Police Service to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission for Haiti under the provisions of the Constitution,” the joint team recommended. A prominent businessman based in Garissa was Wednesday arrested in a dramatic operation at the Tana River Bridge. Abdinasir Yusuf Mohamed is the owner of the Aljazeera Hospital in Garissa Town, which is popular among many in the area. A hospital in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, has been evacuated by police after nearby gang violence.  This came as Kenya started the formal process of deploying more than 1,000 police officers to the country to help in combating the gangs. Parliament is scheduled to discuss and ratify the process. A court stopped the process of deploying the police officers because Parliament had not approved it. The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has finally set the basic minimum monthly wages for all private security guards operating in Kenya. The minimum pay will be Sh18,994 with a house allowance of Sh2,849.11 and overtime allowance of Sh8,156.81, totaling to Sh30,000 per month. The statutory deductions will be National Social Security Fund (Sh1080), Social Health Insurance Fund (Sh825), Pay As You Earn (Sh1229.75) and affordable house levy (Sh450). She said Wilson Okello is not her brother as claimed. The government has pledged to strengthen its counter-terrorism capabilities to further enhance the country’s overall security. The renewed commitment comes amidst terrorism-related incidents and cases of violent extremism across the region, that make the country susceptible to attacks.
