The Supreme Court Friday dismissed a petition challenging the lifting of the High Court’s conservatory orders which had earlier suspended implementation of Finance Act 2023. Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia and three others had appealed against an Appellate Court ruling that lifted injunctions preventing the implementation of the contentious Finance Act 2023. At least eight people died and several others were injured on Thursday night after a matatu collided with a truck at Mlima Kiu area in Makueni on the Nairobi- Mombasa Highway. Makueni Police Commander Barbanas Ng’eno said the accident happened at about 11 pm. He said eight passengers died on the spot following the head-on collision. “We lost eight people in the tragedy. At least four people were separately killed and eaten up by wild animals near two national parks in the country. Police and Kenya Wildlife Service officials said the incidents happened in Mulot, Narok County and Mutuati in Igembe in Meru County. At least 11 sacks of donkey meat were recovered from a car that had been involved in an accident in Limuru area, Kiambu County. Officials estimated up to 15 donkeys were slaughtered in the incident. At least 30 houses have been burnt in inter-clan fighting over a slaughter site in Rhamu, Mandera County. The fighting is between the Degodia and Murule clans, police said. The two groups have been fighting for the past week over a site they use for slaughtering their animals, officials said.
