The High Court in Mombasa on Wednesday froze assets worth Sh100 million in a matrimonial case where a Kenyan woman has sued her Norwegian husband. The estranged wife Joyce Mueni moved to court on February 26, on grounds that her husband Sverre Ingrav Asmervik had purportedly sold, transferred and disposed of matrimonial properties of the marriage without any justification in law. Two men were Monday charged before a Mombasa court with stealing Sh200,585,052.00 and four other fraud-related counts. Pavan Kentan Ramji Shah and Anderson Kombe Hare allegedly conspired to defraud Igsar Group Company Limited, Husaaba Trading Company Limited, Sunova International Limited, and Inland Logistics by fraudulently withdrawing the money using falsified cheques. A Nairobi court on Wednesday dismissed an application by controversial televangelist and founder of Ekeza Sacco David Kariuku Ngari alias Gakuyo to have his bail terms reviewed. In a letter dated March 6, he wants the board to reconsider their insensible demands. The High Court in Nairobi has overturned the acquittal of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa in the Sh39 billion fake arms case. In a judgment delivered by High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo on February 29, it was found that the trial magistrate erred in acquitting Echesa based on a lack of testimony from certain witnesses. Kimondo ruled that the prosecution had presented a strong case against Echesa and that the trial court should have found him with a case to answer, hence putting him on his defense rather than acquitting him.
