The High Court has quashed Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba Mahaga’s 15-year custodial sentence and ordered a retrial for the former rugby players who had been convicted for gang rape. Kenya has confirmed 120 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours after testing 2221 samples, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman has said. This now raises the number of infections confirmed in the country since the outbreak of the disease to 6,190. Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has been charged with ethnic contempt. The Senator was charged on Monday after Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku dismissed an application filed by his legal team challenging the charge sheet. Four suspects connected with a robbery incident captured on Camera along Lenana Road on June 25, 2020, have been arrested. In a tweet, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were nabbed on Monday morning by detectives based at Kilimani. Former President Mwai Kibaki is admitted to Nairobi Hospital, Kahawa Tungu has learnt. Reports indicate that Kibaki was rushed to the hospital on June 19 after he complained of pain in the lower abdomen. A 42-year-old woman from Naivasha made headlines on Saturday after reports that she had poisoned and strangled her four children aged between eight and two years to death. It’s believed that the woman identified as Beatrice Mwende Kimotho committed the heinous act on Friday. She was arrested on Saturday. Kenya’s leading telecommunication company Safaricom has announced another 5 hours of M-Pesa outage beginning midnight. In a statement on Sunday afternoon, Safaricom said that M-Pesa services will undergo planned maintenance between 12am to 5am. 259 more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) raising the number of cases in the country to 6,070. In a press briefing on Sunday, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi said the cases are from 2,718 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours. At the same time, two more patients have succumbed to the disease raising the death toll to 143. The number of recoveries also rose to 1,971 after 35 more patients recovered. Kirinyaga Members of County Assembly have threatened to challenge in court a Senate verdict that cleared Governor Anne Waiguru abuse of office and gross violation of the Constitution charges. Through their lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, the 23 MCAs who voted to impeach Ms Waiguru say they were not satisfied with the verdict of the Senate. Health officials in Nandi County are on a high alert after a detainee at Songhor Police Station in Tinderet constituency tested positive for the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The man had reportedly come into contact with nine other detainees at the station. This, Nandi County Health CEC Ruth Koech said, raises concerns over the cases spreading further in the station.
