Dillon Kibet, a suspect in Ksh300 million (USD 3 million) fake gold scam, has finally been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after months of being hunted. In a statement on Monday evening, the DCI said Kibet was arrested following information availed by members of the public. “We wish to thank members of the public for availing information that has led to the arrest of Mr Dillon Kibet who was wanted in connection with a 3,000,000 USD Fake Gold Scam,” said the DCI. Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip on Monday called for speedy investigation into an incident that saw his father shot and seriously injured by a police officer in Laikipia County on Sunday. The lawmaker claims that his father David Kiwaka was shot in the leg by an officer from Doldol Police Station. Kamukunji Police Station OCS has been summoned by a Nairobi court after a suspect charged with kidnapping a police officer escaped from lawful custody. Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot directed the OCS to present himself in court on Tuesday, May 19, to explain circumstances under which the suspect identified as Martin Wasike escaped from police cells. The magistrate issued the order following a request filed by Alfred Nyandieka, the lawyer representing police constable Abel Misati’s family. The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has banned the sale of eight hand sanitizer brands for not meeting the required standards. In a statement on Sunday evening, KEBS said it has withdrawn the standardisation mark on the substandard products with immediate effect. The brands are Alphax (Kings Palace), Clean Essentials (Virtuelle Products Ltd), G&L (Orange Pharma), Gentle Care (Bidco Africa) and Lili (Kenbrands International Company). The number of Coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to 887 after 57 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. In a statement on Sunday, Government Spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna said a total of 2,198 samples had been tested since the last update on Saturday. The new cases are distributed as follows: Mombasa (35), Nairobi (17),  Kajiado (3), Kwale (1) and Kitui (1). Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, who recently lost her Senate Majority Whip seat, has condemned President Uhuru Kenyatta over continued demolitions in Nairobi that have left thousands homeless. President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania has fired Health Deputy Minister Dr Faustine Ndugulile amid the novel Coronavirus crisis in the country. The Head of State appointed Dr Godwin Mollel as the new assistant Health minister effective May 16, 2020. Police in neighbouring country Tanzania are holding two journalists from Kenya after they were arrested on Saturday while interviewing members of public on the Coronavirus situation in the country. According to Longido District Commissioner Frank Mwaisumbe, who confirmed the arrest, the two were in the country illegally. Mwaisumbe said they could produce documentation as required by the law of the land. The officer said the journalists are detained at Longido Police Station and will be arraigned upon completion of investigations. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers on Saturday night killed five members of the Al Shaaba militia during a foiled attack on Somali Security Forces (SSF) stationed in Bilis Qooqani. In a statement on Sunday morning, KDF said about 20 Al Shabaab terrorists attacked the SSF station from three different directions at around 12:30am. President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed retired Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang as chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) board.
