Ghana’s Black Queens arrived in the country Sunday ahead of their friendly against hosts Harambee Starlets slated for Wednesday at the Kasarani Stadium.

The team jetted in from Zambia where they played their first international warm-up against the She-Polopolo – losing 3-2 Saturday.

The two will use the build-up to sharpen ahead of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Awcon), starting 17 November to 1 December 2018 in Ghana.

Queens’ coach Heyford Bashuri said that they chose to play Kenya because of their good relationship and to gauge the standards of women football in East Africa.

“We opted to play Kenya because of our good working relationship and also because they will be taking part in the Awcon tournament like we will,” Bashuri said.

Ghana and Kenya last faced off during the 2016 Awcon with the former winning 3-1 in a group stage match played in Limbe, Cameroon.

Esse Akida scored the lone goal as Kenya made a maiden appearance at the biennial continental tournament.

“This friendly match will be good for us to not only gauge the standard of women football in East Africa but to also get in shape for the tournament,” Bashuri added.

Starlets are also scheduled to play neighbors Crested Cranes of Uganda in their last preparations match before they depart for the tournament where they are grouped alongside Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia in Group B.

The team has been in camp since Monday last week and played two local friendlies, wining 1-0 against a select Women’s Premier League side and losing 3-1 to the National U-15s side.
