Business trips sound glamorous – until you’ve been living out of a suitcase for the third week straight, surviving on memes, caffeine, and questionable snacks. Between security checks, endless conference calls, and the fine dining experience that is a vending machine sandwich at 11pm, it is easy to forget that Mississauga is actually one of Canada’s most beautiful cities.

Taking time to unwind isn’t just a luxury; it is essential (especially if you want to stay somewhat pleasant in meetings). So, before your next business pitch, here are five ways to relax in Toronto’s stylish, more easy-going neighbor:

    Hiking

Hiking in Mississauga is a highly effective way to remind your legs what they are there for, other than walking from the car to the office, of course.

Sneaking off into nature during a business trip can feel a bit like playing hooky – only with better scenery and fewer emails that hope they find you well. You’ll come across scenic trails through forests and marshes and get to breathe in some fresh air.

It is the perfect antidote to boardrooms and never-ending meetings.

It is Canada, so don’t be surprised if you come across some waterfowl that are slightly less Zen about sharing the path.

    Shopping

Shopping in Mississauga is cardio disguised as retail therapy.

Square One Shopping Centre, located in the heart of Mississauga, has everything you could want and anything you can imagine. With over 300 stores and restaurants, Square One is the city’s pride and joy.

If malls aren’t for you, the city has loads of character, including charming boutiques and cozy cafes. Mississauga oozes small-town energy with big-city polish – perfect for taking a break from boosting your business and going on a souvenir hunt.

    Meditation

Meditation sounds easy – I mean, thinking about nothing, how hard could that be?

Well, it’s never that simple. Five seconds in, your brain decides it’s time to host a full-blown committee meeting, planning tomorrow’s agenda and debating whether sushi or pasta is better-suited for a business lunch.

The trick is being in the right environment. Travel to Mississauga and stay in short term rentals so you can quickly get into a quiet morning meditation routine. Once your mind is trained to get past the mental chaos, meditation can be so relaxing, especially on a business trip.

    Kayaking

If you are looking for the perfect way to swap conference calls for calm waters, Mississauga will not disappoint.

You don’t need to be a super-skilled kayaker here. You just need a willingness to wobble as gracefully as possible, and get a little wet. Rentals are easy to find around the city, and the views are Instagram-worthy.

Don’t forget sunscreen and a bottle of water.

    Concerts

Mississauga is far from just office parks and airport hotels. This city knows how to turn up the volume.

The concert scene here is surprisingly alive – from open-air festivals to intimate gigs, this city has something on offer for all music fundis.

Start with a visit to the Living Arts Centre; it is a 225,000-square-foot multi-use facility that houses three theatres for the performing arts, an exhibition gallery, art studios, and more. It also offers facilities for corporate meetings and a restaurant, so you can get the best of both worlds during your visit.

    To End

Mississauga might be your business trip city, but it is also the perfect place to hit pause on the work grind and get some much-needed downtime.
