Carrefour Kenya Opens its Third Branch at the Thika Road Mall

Majid Al Futtaim has opened its third Carrefour store in Kenya at the former Nakumatt space in Thika Road Mall “TRM”.

The new store will operate with partial area and product range as major refurbishment work gets underway in the 5,000 square metre selling area. The rush to open the store was to cash on the upcoming holiday shopping around the Christmas season.

The store will open fully around June 2018.

Franck Moreau, Country Manager, at Majid Al Futtaim – Retail Kenya said, “We are pleased and honoured to be bringing our services closer to the residents of Roysambu and Kasarani, as well as the growing number of those travelling along the busy Thika Road.”

The store expects to stock over 30,000 unique products when fully operational.

One key and special aspect on Nakumatt I really miss is the Nakumatt Select. I hope that Carrefour will find ways of bringing such unique and premium products for select clients.

The Thika Road Mall store becomes the third Carrefour store in Kenya, with the first two- at The Hub in Karen and at Two Rivers Mall, opened in May 2016 and March 2017, respectively. It brings total staff at Carrefour in Kenya to 800, with 200 already assigned to the Thika Road Mall store.

While Carrefour is spreading its tentacles locally, it would be interesting to see what they do about the persistent accusation of racism in their stores locally and in other places like India and the Middle East.
