The National construction Authority has been on ths spotlight in recent years after the collapsing of buildings that has led to loss of lives in almost all parts of t country.

A source has disclosed to Kahawa Tungu that this is lack of due diligence is caused by greed of senior managers who send unqualified personnel to collect bribes at the expense of building inspection. This has led to the construction of substandard buildings that have in the recent past collapsed killing innocent tenants.

The source who is an assistant manager at the Authority said that receptionists and secretaries were being given per diem to go collect bribes for their seniors while qualified engineers stay at the office doing nothing.

He said that the authority had hired casuals whose contracts were renewed after every three months to also perform inspection duties and also collect bribes for the people who hired them. The level of incompetency in the National construction Authority has been heightened by the fact that the term of the board and the executive is coming to an end

This means that staff contracts are being converted to permanent and pensionable employment and the staff are being to deployed to areas the are not qualified in.

He said that the corrupt managers who have various corruption and disciplinary issues were being transferred along with the officers in order to maintain the corruption cycle.

The source gave an example of Engineer Kanda  who was formerly at the Ethics and anti corruption but was sacked for corruption and Mr Juma who has various disciplinary issues at the Head office were transferred together to various regional offices in Kisii, Kajiado and currently they are at the Mombasa office.

There has been a wave of systemic failure in Kenyan institutions that has been blamed on greed by people at senior positions. The National construction authority will be another failed institution if this issues of corruption and incompetency are not addressed . All this happens at the expense of innocent who are the victims of the collapsed buildings
