Police in Thika West, Kiambu County, are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body of an unidentified man in Chania River.

The body was discovered on October 14, after a farmer tending to her shamba near the riverbank noticed a foul smell emanating from the area.

According to police, the woman was working on her farm at around 9am alongside another farmer, when they noticed the unusual smell.

Upon checking the source, the two discovered the badly decomposed body of an adult male floating in the river.

They alerted the authorities, prompting officers from Makongeni Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika West to visit the scene.

The body was retrieved from the river with the assistance of Kiambu County Government divers and members of the public.

Crime scene personnel subsequently processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to General Kago Morgue.

The body is being preserved pending a postmortem examination and identification.

Police are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and determine how long the body had been in the river.

And police in Diani, Kwale County, are investigating the murder of a 26-year-old man whose body was discovered along a paved road near Bahari Dhow Hotel.

The deceased, identified as Hassan Penginepo, was found lying face down beside the road on October 14, with his hands tied behind his back using sisal ropes and his feet bound with a leather belt.

Officers who responded to the scene found the body bearing a deep injury to the back of the head, alongside bruises on the back, knees and elbows.

The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, with investigators expected to establish where the man was attacked and who was responsible.

Crime scene investigation personnel processed the scene and documented evidence before the body was moved to Msambweni Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

The body is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

    Police investigations are ongoing.
