Diamond platnumz has reached out to BASATA, negotiating for them to revisit and recall the ban on the song ‘Mwanza’.

On Monday, Baraza la Sanaa Tanzania banned Wasafi’s latest release, Mwanza, performed by Rayvanny and Diamond Platnumz.

The board gave tough conditions to Diamond and his record label, in a move aimed at curbing the channels of immorality being spread in the country.

Wasafi was ordered to remove the song from all their digital platforms and for the artists to stop promoting the song on their business and personal pages or they will face prosecution.

They were also ordered not to perform the song or any other song which has been banned, at the Wasafi Festival or any other concert within the country.

The duo were lastly summoned to BASATA to go and explain why they intentionally posted an indecent song.

In an open letter, Diamond who is away on a tour in Montreal, argues that the song also known as ‘Nyegezi’ speaks of a bus stop in Mwanza, while at the same time, the song does not target young children.

He requests BASATA to allow the song to be played after the watershed period. They argue that the song targets people outside Tanzania, such as Uganda which hosts Nyege Nyege Festival every year.

Through his International market, Diamond argues that he does not charge less than 70,000 USD for a performance, enabling him to bring in at least 21,000 USD in government revenue.

He further states that his concerts are held only for people who are 18 years and above, making them adults who can make their own decisions.

On the part sang about banned model, Amber Rutty, Diamond has requested the board to listen to the song again, as they are actually speaking against her behavior.

Finally, Diamond argues that the song promotes Nyegezi, the bus stop in Mwanza, as the 1.6 million YouTube viewers would love to visit Tanzania to see where this place is and take photos from there, hence attracting tourists to Tanzania.

When he gets back from his tour in Canada, Diamond is expected to appear before BASATA for disciplinary action.
