Africa Merchant Assurance (Amaco), Kisii branch was for the better part of Tuesday morning a scene of drama after an auctioneer forcefully stormed the premises to recover cumulative rent arrears from the Ruto linked firm .
Police from Kisii Central Police Station, however, later retreated to ‘consult’ after a female staffer aggressively fought them back.
She constantly threw epithets the auctioneer staffers and journalists who had turned up to cover the incident.
At one point she hit a TV journalist with a stamp as he rolled his camera.
Two officers from Betico Auctioneers were injured in a scuffle.
Amaco is partly associated to President William Ruto’s family and his associates.
The auctioneers said they had visited the insurance offices on the strength of a court order to recover about Sh297,000 reported as cumulative rent arrears by the insurer.
The insurance offices are located at Magsons Building along Hospital road in Central Kisii.
The claim to recover the rent arrears was filed in court by one Rose Nyangweso.
Late July, 2021, the court sitting in Kisii had ordered Amaco to pay the plaintiff Sh156,000.
The damages have since ballooned past Sh297,000.
The initial Sh156,000 was granted as General damages, Sh68,650 as interest, Sh72,310 as party and party taxed costs and sh1000 costed as court fees.
“These are to command you to attach the movable property of the said judgement debtor ( Africa Merchant Assurance Co Ltd).”
“You’re further commanded to return this warrant on or before the 5th day of May, 2025 with an endorsement certifying the day on which and manner in which it has been executed, or why it has not been executed,” stated part of ruling by the court.
The ruling was made by magistrate H. C Keter.
