Three people, including two children, were burnt to death in a tragic incident in Bulagu village in Budalang’i, Busia County.

This was after the house they were sleeping in caught fire on Friday night, police said.

Police said the fire affected the home of Patrick Bahati and his two children, who were in Grade Seven and Grade Two, respectively.

Bunyala Sub-County OCPD Lawrenias Odinga confirmed the incident, saying investigations into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown, have since been launched.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Bokoli, Bungoma County, a 16-year-old died after being speared in a game at the Bunangeni Secondary School.

The incident happened Friday January 30, 2026 during javelin game. One of the students threw a javelin which hit the deceased in the head.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.  Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

In Oljororok, Nyandarua County, a girl who was missing was found dead in a thicket hours after she went missing. The body was lying in a thicket concealed using green leaves.

She was aged eight and was a Grade two pupil at Oljoroorok Primary School.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor left the school at around 1620 hours as usual in company of another minor from the neighborhood.

After the other minor branched to her home the deceased was left alone proceeding to her home.

The minor never reached home in time as expected prompting the mother to mount a search. Her father, a bodaboda rider was informed and he came home to join other villagers in the search.

After a short search a school bag was discovered beside the road and the minor body was found 100 metres away in a small bush hands tied at the back.

The face had also been covered using a Marvin head dress.

Upon uncovering the head blood was oozing out from the nose with no physical injuries, police said.

The body was removed to J.M. Kariuki Hospital Mortuary for preservation awaiting post-mortem to ascertain cause of death.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said.
