    Fernanda Torres is a renowned Brazilian actress, writer, screenwriter, and director whose career has spanned over four decades in theater, television, literature, and cinema.

    Born on September 15, 1965, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she comes from a family deeply rooted in the performing arts, with her mother being the legendary actress Fernanda Montenegro and her father the actor and producer Fernando Torres.

    Torres made her acting debut at the age of 13 in theater and transitioned to film by 17, quickly establishing herself as a talent to watch.

    Beyond acting, she has authored bestselling novels and contributed scripts to films and series, blending her artistic heritage with her own innovative voice in Brazilian culture.

    Torres began her career in theater at a young age, debuting in the play Um Tango Argentino in 1978, and soon expanded into film with her first role in Innocência in 1983.

    She gained early recognition for performances in films like A Marvada Carne in 1985 and Love Me Forever or Never in 1986, which showcased her dramatic range.

    Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, she appeared in acclaimed movies such as Foreign Land in 1996, Four Days in September in 1997, and The House of Sand in 2005, often collaborating with family members or prominent Brazilian directors.

    On television, she starred in popular series including Os Normais from 2001 to 2003 and Tapas & Beijos from 2011 to 2015, bringing humor and depth to her roles.

    As a writer, Torres penned novels like The End in 2014, which became a bestseller and was adapted into a miniseries, and Glory and Its Litany of Horrors in 2017.

    Her screenwriting credits include films like O Juízo in 2018, and she continued to shine in acting with her powerful performance in I’m Still Here in 2024, portraying a resilient mother during Brazil’s military dictatorship era.

    Accolades

    Torres has received widespread recognition for her contributions to film and theater, starting with the Best Actress award at the Festival de Gramado in 1985 for A Marvada Carne and the Palme d’Or for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986 for Love Me Forever or Never, making her the first Brazilian actress to win that honor at just 20 years old.

    She went on to earn the Best Actress prize at the Three Continents Festival in 1986 for Com Licença, Eu Vou à Luta, the IFFI Best Actor Award (Female) at the International Film Festival of India in 1987, and Best Actress at the Festival de Brasília in 1999 for Gêmeas.

    In 2006, she won Best Actress at the Guadalajara International Film Festival for The House of Sand, and more recently, her role in I’m Still Here brought her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2025, along with wins at the Celebration of Cinema and Television, São Paulo Art Critics Association, Latino Entertainment Journalists’ Film Awards, Gold Derby Film Awards, and Platino Awards, all in 2025.

    Additionally, she received a nomination for Best Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards, was runner-up for Best Lead Performance at the 2024 Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and earned a nomination at the 2025 International Cinephile Society for the same performance.
