Football Kenya Federation (FKF)  is yet to appeal against the reinstatement of Equatorial Guinea in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

FKF had announced that they would challenge the CAF Appeal Board’s 8 November 2018 decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) but this has not happened two days to the tournament in Ghana.

A source at the Kandanda House intimated to Kahawa Tungu that the federation was advised against the move as “they did not have sufficient grounds to appeal.”

FKF, who are experiencing lean financial times and has been begging the government for support, are also unable to raise the amount needed to launch the appeal at CAS.

“FKF was advised by their legal team that they did not have a strong case.

Moving to CAS is also costly and they need to deposit around Ksh10 million before the appeal can be considered, money they currently don’t have,” the source said.

Equatorial Guinea successfully appealed against CAF Disciplinary Board ruling which expelled them from the continental championship for allegedly fielding an ineligible player against Kenya’s Harambee Starlets during the final round of the qualifying matches.

FKF termed the appeal’s verdict as “a great injustice not only to the Kenya national women football team Harambee Starlets but also to the millions of Kenyan fans spread across the world, the Kenyan government and the federation” and vowed to challenge it at CAS.

Among other things, FKF wanted CAS halt the tournament before it kicks-off on Saturday till their case was heard and determined.
