A female police officer in Migori County shot dead a form two student on Tuesday evening at Onger market in Nyatike Sub County.

Reports indicate that the student, Devis Lango Okumu, was hit by a stray bullet while he was strolling in the market.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the Akala Secondary School student was shot by the officer who was among security officers who were controlling a mob that wanted to lynch a woman accused of pick-pocketing a trader at the market.

The deceased’s uncle, Odira Okumu noted that his nephew was shot in the abdomen.

The boy died while being taken to Migori Level Four Hospital.

His body was later moved to the hospital’s mortuary facility.

Addressing the issue, Migori Police boss Joseph Nthenge noted that he is yet to be properly briefed on the incident that claimed the boy’s life.

He therefore declined to comment on the matter.
