West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo’s convoy was on Tuesday attacked at Lami Nyeusi area in West Pokot-Turkana border while headed for a peace meeting.
During the early morning attack, heavily armed bandits are alleged to have sprayed the convoy with bullets before Lonyangapuo’s security responded.
The governor was in the company of Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong and Kacheliba’s legislator Mark Lonunokol.
The county’s security team and a section of other county officials are also reported to have been caught in the attack.
The governor has since condemned the attack saying it was stage managed.

Further, John Lonyangapuo called upon local security teams to be vigilant. He also urged as he local leaders to embrace peace in the area.
“We need to beef up security in all hot spots and disarm all those with legal firearms,” said Lonyangapuo.
The leaders are reported to have been on their way to Takaywa village where one person had been killed and more than 500 herds of cattle stolen by cattle rustlers.
