Gikomba market was once again on fire on Wednesday morning.

The inferno consumed a section of Line 42 but was by 6 am well under control.

Witnesses did however note that the 4 am fire consumed stalls with shoes and apparels meaning huge losses for the traders.

The main cause of the fire is yet to be established.

In February, goods worth millions were gutted down by a fire whose cause was never established.

It has been said that the rampant fires have been caused by cartels seeking to grab the land on which the open air market sits.

On November 7, last year, a fire erupted at Gikomba Market at dawn and destroyed a number of shops. On June 28 in the same year, 15 people died and more than 60 others were injured after a timber and second-hand clothes went up in flames at the market.
