Drawing a horse can be a fun and creative activity for kids. With just a few easy shapes and simple lines, children can create a friendly and playful horse that looks great on paper. This step-by-step guide is perfect for young artists who are just learning how to draw animals in a simple, cartoon style. Here is how to draw a horse for kids.
Step 1: Draw the Head
Begin by drawing a small oval or egg shape near the top-left of the page. This will be the horse’s head. Make the bottom part of the oval slightly longer for the nose. Add two small ears on top by drawing tiny triangles.
Step 2: Add the Face Details
Draw two big round eyes near the top of the head and add a small curved line for the nose near the bottom. Put two small dots for nostrils and a smiley curve for the mouth to give your horse a friendly expression.
Step 3: Sketch the Neck and Body
From the bottom of the head, draw two slightly curved lines going downward and backward to form the neck. Then, draw a large rounded oval or rectangle for the body. Make sure the body is much bigger than the head since horses have strong bodies.
Step 4: Draw the Legs
Under the body, draw four legs using long narrow rectangles. Make them slightly bent at the knees to look natural. You can add a small horizontal line at the bottom of each leg for hooves.
Step 5: Add the Tail and Mane
Draw a big, bushy tail at the back of the body using curved lines that look like waves. For the mane, draw soft curved lines along the top of the head and neck. You can make it spiky or flowing depending on how playful you want the horse to look.
Step 6: Final Touches
Add more details like lines on the hooves, extra hair in the mane or tail, or even a saddle if you like. You can also draw grass or clouds to complete the scene.
Step 7: Outline and Color
Go over your pencil lines with a dark pen or marker to make the drawing bold. Erase any extra sketch marks. Then, use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to color the horse. Brown, black, white, or even fun colors like pink or blue can make your horse unique.
