Drawing a soccer player is a great way to practice figure drawing and action poses. Whether you’re a fan of the sport or just want to sketch athletes in motion, learning how to draw a soccer player step by step can be fun and rewarding. A soccer player’s pose often includes running, kicking, or standing with the ball, which adds life and energy to your artwork. Here is how to draw a soccer player.
Step 1: Draw the Head and Body Outline
Start by drawing a circle for the head. Just below the head, sketch a vertical line to guide the spine. Then add a rectangle or long oval shape for the torso. From there, sketch a narrow shape below it to represent the waist and hips.
Step 2: Add the Arms and Legs
From the upper sides of the torso, draw two lines extending out and bending for the arms. Use small circles for elbows and hands to show where the joints will be. Then draw the legs by sketching two long lines going downward with bends at the knees. Add small shapes at the bottom for feet, with one leg slightly lifted if you want to show the player kicking the ball.
Step 3: Sketch the Facial Features and Hair
Inside the head circle, add light lines to guide where the eyes, nose, and mouth will go. Keep the face simple or cartoon-style if you prefer. Then draw short or long hair depending on the character you want, or even add a headband or cap for a sporty look.
Step 4: Add the Soccer Kit
Draw the shirt around the upper body with short sleeves. Add a number or team badge if you like. Next, sketch the shorts, which should reach halfway down the thighs. Draw long socks reaching up from the shin to just below the knees, then sketch the cleats or soccer shoes at the feet.
Step 5: Add the Soccer Ball
Place the soccer ball near one of the feet or just ahead of the player, depending on the pose. A soccer ball is a circle with a pattern of pentagons and hexagons, or you can keep it simple by drawing a plain ball.
Step 6: Outline and Add Details
Go over your drawing with a pen or dark pencil to outline the figure. Add details like jersey wrinkles, shoe laces, or grass underfoot. Erase any extra sketch lines that aren’t part of the final drawing.
Step 7: Color Your Drawing
Use your preferred colors to bring your soccer player to life. Color the jersey, shorts, socks, and ball. You can also color the field or add a stadium background if you wish.
