    Interior CS Matiang’i Declares NRM An Organized Criminal Group

    The interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has declared that the National Resistance Movement as an organized criminal group.

    He cited section 22 of the prevention of organized crimes act of 2010which states that the minister may declare a group an organized criminal group if he/she has reason to believe that the group is organized in criminal activity.

    “Where the Minister has reasonable grounds to believe that a specified group is engaged in any organized criminal activity under section 3 of this Act, he may, on the advice of the Commissioner of Police, by notice, declare that specified group an organized criminal group for the purposes of this Act.”

    The act also stipulates that the aggrieved party may seek redress from the High court within 21 days.
